So, right now, #whatisinside is already announced by P1 W1MAX, Intel Malaysia and 6 OEM suppliers. I've been given the opportunity to attend the pre-launch event for Bloggers, twitterers and etc. last week at Intel's office. I am truly delighted to be also invited for today's event, however I am unable to make it as the event time is well, clashing with my school time. So, here's the sneak peek photos from the pre-launch event. Here's a short photo-timeline of the event:A short keynote from a representative from Intel Malaysia. Here's some short facts presented by her:
- Malaysia is the sixth country in the world to have WiMAX-enabled laptops. (after USA, Taiwan, Japan, Russia and Ukraine)
- It will be powered by a new platform under Intel Centrino, which will include this new chip, Intel® Centrino® Advanced–N + WiMAX 6250
-
Some short facts:
- 1 in 10 Malaysians have access to broadband.
- Average usage of a P1 W1MAX subscriber, 10GB.
- Peak hour usage of about 60-70% in urban areas.
- 60% of P1 W1MAX coverage will be achieved by the end of the year.
So how does it work?
Today, they've officially announced the plans and the deals with the laptops. Here's the mystery solved:,
- The 6 OEMs announced are Dell, Acer, Lenovo, MSI, Asus and Toshiba.
- The plan will be priced at RM89 per month (with service from P1 W1MAX, d'oh). Here are
the details:
* Theoretical download speeds of up to 10Mbps
* Fair Usage Policy of 15GB a month.
- Free 6 months P1 1NSiDE plan for notebooks and 3 months for netbooks.
- I am actually quite confused of another fact, it seems that if you purchase your laptop before 30th September, 2010, you will be paying RM49 for the same details as above. Please contact P1 W1MAX for this (am not so sure).
- However, you do still have to bear the full price of the laptop. It's not a bundle or anything whatsoever. So, don't get confused by this.
About the laptops:
Currently, the only notebook available is from Lenovo.
Lenovo IdeaPad V360 Notebook

Comments: Specs are not that bad. Reasonably priced too. Does not make much price difference between mainstream normal laptops and a WiMAX-enabled laptop . So it's worth the price.
Netbook
Acer Aspire One 533 Netbook
Specifications:

Comments: Not that bad also after all. Same price with my HP Mini 110 man! Only that without WiMAX.
MSI U135 Netbook
Specifications:

Comments: Cheaper than above. =P Almost same specifications anyways.
Notebooks/netbooks from Dell, Toshiba and Asus has not been released yet.
